Volunteer Role Description: Trinity Rooms Editor

 

About the Role

The Trinity Rooms is a vital community hub in Stroud, a space dedicated to food justice, social connection, and grassroots action. We are looking for a thoughtful and organised Editor to act as the guardian of our stories and history.

 

While we hope our Writer in Residence will create the narrative, the Editor ensures that everything we publish is polished, consistent, and captures the unique "soul" of the Trinity Rooms. You will help ensure our community’s story is told with clarity and sensitivity, and you’ll document and archive content for easier use and access. 

 

Key Responsibilities

• Editorial Oversight: Act as the lead sub-editor for the Trinity Rooms blog. You will review the work of the Writer in Residence and anything else that goes on the blog and website, providing constructive feedback and ensuring all content aligns with our values of radical inclusivity and community warmth.

• Visual Documentation: Be responsible for taking (or coordinating the collection of) high-quality photos and short videos that document the work of the Trinity Rooms, from the buzz of the community kitchen to the quiet moments in the garden. This includes ethical consent and documentation. 

• Content Archiving: Maintain and organise a digital content library. You will curate a "bank" of images, quotes, and video snippets, making it easy for the wider Communications Team to find assets for newsletters and social media.

• Publishing Management: Oversee the digital publishing process, ensuring that blog posts are formatted correctly, include alt-text for accessibility, and are shared on time. This includes coordination with the rest of the COM Circle and social media volunteer.

 

Qualities Needed

• Editorial Judgment: You have a sharp eye for detail, strong grammar, and the ability to maintain a voice that is professional yet deeply rooted in the warmth of a community space.

• Sensitivity and Ethics: You understand the importance of genuine connection. You prioritise consent and ensure that the stories we share never feel tokenistic or intrusive, especially when documenting vulnerable community members.

• Aesthetic Sensibility: You have a "photographic eye" and the skill to capture the atmosphere of a physical space through a lens, focusing on small details that tell a big story.

• Reliability: As a key link in the communications chain, you are able to manage deadlines and keep the publishing schedule on track.
